DISSERTATION Binding Requirements:

SUBMISSION: Submit your final manuscript for review & approval online via the NSUWorks portal: https://nsuworks.nova.edu/cgi/ir_submit.cgi?context=hcas_etd_all.
- Please note: All Capstone, Thesis, and Dissertation signature pages are submitted electronically by committee members in the NSUWorks online ETD submission system, which will create a digital signature page for your work.
Printed copies are no longer required!
- If you would like to order personal printed copies for yourself, your committee, or others, you can do so through the binding options linked here.

Formatting of Paper:

Create a title page that follows the format shown in the template available on this page.
Include keywords - place them after your abstract on the same page (if possible). Keywords should be important terms not included in your title.

Margins	All margins = 1 inch
Font	Times New Roman 12 Point Font
Spacing	1.5 spaced, except for: Abstract should be single spaced. Figure & Table captions should be single spaced (The caption for a figure appears below the graphic; for a table, above). References should be single spaced with a hard enter between each citation or a layout space between each one.

As part of your online submission process you will be required to upload your dissertation into NSU’s Institutional Repository, NSUWorks. Please review the copyright statements contained therein before submission. While entering text into the appropriate fields, please take note that the email address you provide will be the only form of contact for your dissertation in the event that someone needs to ask for your permission to use or view it. Please use a permanent email address. Embargoes will only be approved for works that are being published in a journal or if a grant stipulates an embargo.

Finally, you must submit your dissertation to ProQuest*. This service is free to students. Please speak to a librarian if you need assistance with this step.

*Please be sure NOT to select the option for 3rd-Party selling - this means your work could be sold to a 3rd-Party vendor without your knowledge!

Revision of the Dissertation and Final Submission:

The student shall be required to remain in full registration throughout the Ph.D. program, during defense, and during any required revisions of the dissertation. At least three signed copies of the successfully defended and completed dissertation (including revisions specified during the defense) must be submitted in printed form, on at least 20% cotton rag content paper, to the Oceanographic Center librarian. The cost of binding is the student’s responsibility. An electronic copy must be submitted as well.

The Major Professor and committee are responsible for insuring that changes specified by the committee are incorporated in the final version. Once the final version has been accepted, registration requirements for the student are over. One bound copy will be placed in the library, one is for the student’s major professor, and one is for the program office. The student may submit any number of additional personal copies to the librarian for binding or may have them bound elsewhere.

To avoid additional tuition, the final thesis must be submitted within 30 days of the last day of the term you defended in. Theses with major revisions after the oral defense will be required to register for an additional term.

Recommended selections:

Select Type of Publishing = Traditional Publishing
Select Publishing Options = YES to "I want major search engines (e.g. Google, Yahoo) to discover my work through ProQuest."
Access Options = YES. Only Select NO if you have patents pending, or another reason why you need to delay access to the full text of your work, such as a paper in press or a grant requirement.
Accept the Traditional Publishing Agreement
Access options for NSU’s Institutional Repository (IR) Publishing Options = select the same option as you did for access options above (open access immediately, or embargoes for designated time periods if required). This will automatically upload your dissertation for you into NSU’s Institutional Repository, NSU Works.
Please review the NSU Theses and Dissertations Agreement for rights and permissions for electronic thesis, dissertation, or capstone project placement on NSU’s Institutional Repository, NSU Works. Check off the box that you have read, understand and agree to this University Agreement, then save & continue.
Contact Information = You do not need to use your NSU email - select an email that you regularly use and will continue to use in the future. Your NSU ID is required in the Institutional Student ID.
Double check your entries into the Dissertation/Thesis Details boxes!
- For Your Degree/Department Information, select the following:
  - Degree Awarded = Doctor of Philosophy
  - Department = Marine Biology/Oceanography
- Include your keywords!
Upload your PDF = We recommend you scan and add your SIGNED signature page to your file. If you need assistance with this, please let us know.
Supplemental Files (Optional) = this can be pictures, raw data, etc. - anything that supports your dissertation that you would like to include.
Register U.S. Copyright = This is optional, but you can have ProQuest (for a fee) get you a copyright for your work.
Order Copies = You do NOT need to order your print copies through this system. We take care of the binding for you through a different company. You can use this option in the future by logging back in at a later date to request a printed copy if you need additional ones or if you misplace your copy. For now, click on Decline - do not order.
Verify your submission and submit!
The submission will then come to an NSU OC Librarian for review and approval. They will contact you if there are any issues that need to be addressed.

Search for past NSU OC Dissertations by title, author, and year.
